What to expect
In the morning, you'll be picked up at your accommodation by your guide, who will go over the program and itinerary of the day with you. Then, you'll board a comfortable, air conditioned minivan equipped with an on board P/A system that allows you to hear the commentary of your driver/guide no matter where you are seated, and head towards Colmar.
As you travel along the Alsace plain to reach Colmar, you'll admire the Black Forest landscape to your left and the Alsace vineyards to your right making for great scenery. Arrive in Colmar and follow your guide on a walking tour. Described by Frommer’s as “one of the most attractive towns in Alsace”, Colmar is situated in east-central France, in a border region that was once disputed between France and Germany. It's known for its well preserved old town, its numerous architectural landmarks and its museums, among which is the Unterlinden Museum with the Isenheim Altarpiece.
Admire the “Maison des Tetes”, an outstanding German Renaissance building and to the Little Venice neighborhood where gorgeous half timbered houses are lined along the Lauch River. Other significant landmarks include the Koifhus, the Pfister house, Saint Martin church, the covered market and so much more. Colmar is also one of the gateways to the Alsace Wine Route and we also organise alsace wine tours from Colmar.
After some free time for personal discovery and lunch, follow the Alsace wine route and participate in a wine tasting session in authentic ‘caveau’, the local name for wineries that are located in small, typical and quaint, Alsace villages.
During this sightseeing tour, you will have the opportunity to taste many different grape varieties that are used to create Alsace wines: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sylvaner. Pinot Noir can also be found in Alsace for the making of a local red wine but the whites wines are without a doubt what makes the solid reputation of quality found in Alsace wines.
