What to expect
Begin your 3-hour gourmet exploration small group guided tour of Bordeaux by meeting your guide at the Tourist Office. This food tour will take you through Bordeaux at a very leisurely pace, giving you time to admire the historic beauty of the city's architectural gems. Listen as your professional foodie guide offers insight into Bordeaux's culinary history as you walk through the cobbled streets.
Different days brings different opportunities. On Mondays, you'll be able to visit one of the most famous chocolatiers in the city. On Wednesdays and Fridays, follow your guide to a cheese shop to sample cheeses from different parts of the country, such as Roquefort, Brie and Comté. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, you'll be able to stop at a local pork butcher shop and enjoy Basque charcuterie.
You'll finish the food tour with a visit to a typical apartment and taste all the products you gathered during the tour. Take your pick from the generous array of food offerings, including many of the items you sampled earlier in the tour, accompanied by a glass of wine.
Around 1.45pm, you will leave Bordeaux in a minivan and follow the "Route des châteaux" of the Médoc. Your guide will provide all the information you need to know about the wine regions of Bordeaux and the Médoc. You will stop in a charming and authentic family property. You will visit the vineyards, take a tour of the traditional winery, and discover the cellar. You will also take part in a tasting class where you will be able to educate your nose to identify the aromas of the wines. At the end of the visit, you will have a tasting of the château's wines.
Around 4.30 pm, you will visit a Grand Cru Classé and more specifically the vineyards, the vat room, and the cellars where you will learn about the winemaking process, from the vine to the bottle. Finally, you will enjoy the visit with a tasting of the estate's wines while enjoying an aperitif with French delicacies (cheese, fresh bread...).
