What to expect
Ever wondered how that delicious Gouda cheese is made? Learn the craft of making cheese at a Dutch cheese farm! Enjoy a guided tour and taste some of the best cheeses, biscuits and wine that Holland has to offer.
Starting out with milk from the local cows, learn about the steps involved in making cheese. Mixing, heating, pressing and eventually eating, of course! Make your own little farmer's cheese. This is a very young cheese that can be eaten directly or ripened at home using liquid plastic as a cover around the cheese.
After the workshop, you will take a guided tour in the clog factory. See a piece of wood turn into footwear and learn about the different varieties of clogs.

Begin your experience at the Simonehoeve traditional cheese farm and clog factory.
Traveling from Amsterdam? Take bus 316 from Amsterdam CS (IJzijde) - Tickets can be bought at the station or from the bus driver for €10 (cash is not accepted). You will find Simonehoeve a couple of meters from bus stop for 'Hotel Volendam'.
Traveling by car? You will find Simonehoeve next to Hotel Volendam. At the roundabout Amsterdam-Edam-Volendam take the Volendam direction (right) and then immediately turn right again.
The Cheesefarm and Clog Factory can be recognized by the mini-windmill.

Important to know
- During the workshop you will make your own cheese using raw (cow) milk fresh from the dairy farm
- At the end of the workshop, you will receive your own cheese which is very young at this point. It is possible to ripen the cheese at home under certain circumstances, information will be provided during the workshop
- Note the duration of the workshop is about 2.5-hours, including the tour through the clog factory
- This activity can only be provided when booked beforehand. It is not possible to arrange a clog making workshop at the moment of arrival
