Things to do in River Vecht
Winding its way between Amsterdam and Utrecht, the River Vecht is one of the most idyllic rivers in the Netherlands, and the perfect setting for a dose of nature!
Whether you’re gliding along the water by boat or cycling along the shores of the river, the scenery will amaze you. The Vecht passes through seven picturesque towns including Breukelen and Maarseen, also known as ‘little Amsterdam’ with its traditional river-side houses next to the water’s edge.
The river banks are famous for stunning 17th and 18th-century country estates with their dazzling gardens so make sure to bring your cameras to take some photos. You’ll also be able to see impressive castles including the Slot Zuylen Castle and the Muiderslot. Be amazed as it looks like the castles are floating!
Feast your eyes on the characteristic windmills dotted along the river too, a national symbol of the Netherlands. Feel like you’re stepping into a colorful world of Mary Poppins as you enjoy the lush scenery and views, maybe with a refreshment in hand!
