What to expect
The MUCEM's exhibitions present a wealth of culture and show the social, scientific and political history of the Euro-Mediterranean world from prehistory to the present day, combining fine arts, anthropology, history, archaeology, and contemporary art. Its permanent exhibition "Le Grand Mezze", dedicated to the Mediterranean diet, takes you on the journey from "field to plate", from the colourful markets of the Mediterranean to multinational restaurant chains.
Upcoming temporary exhibitions:
5 April – 22 August 2022: ABD EL-KADER - This exhibition examines the place occupied by the emir in the evolving relations between Algeria and France. Simultaneously a military leader, exiled chief of state, spiritual sage and scholar, the emir can also be seen as a ‘historical subject’ rooted in his time, the heart of the 19th century, and place, the Mediterranean.
21 June – 17 October 2022: PHARAONS SUPERSTARS - Deep dive into the pharaohs’ posterity that inspires reflection on memory and fame. Beyond Ramses, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun and Cleopatra, discover ancient Egypt iconic figures who have been almost completely forgotten.
19 October 2022 – 13 February 2023: FRIENDSHIPS IN ART (20th to 21st century art) - From Picasso to Picabia and Warhol to Basquiat, discover close to 100 works drawn from public and private collections showcasing various types of collaborative venture.
