Why you’ll love this…
  • The rural towns and fishing villages of Fuerteventura offer a glimpse into real Canarian culture
  • The fairytale-like village of Betancuria is brimming with history, like it's Gothic-style church
  • There's a chance to taste locally made goats cheese and honey rum, plus visit an Aloe Vera farm
  • You'll see Aztec designs, like moons, suns and snakes carved in the arch of Pajara's village church
  • Your local expert guide will show you sea caves, black-sand beaches and more on this full-day tour
What to expect

Stroll through timeworn village plazas and into pretty colonial churches, investigate sea caves and learn about typical produce. Between stops you'll visit lofty viewpoints to admire Fuerteventura's unusually stark landscape. It may look barren but Marta, one of our expert guides, says, ‘There are 44 different bird species found on Fuerteventura, despite the lack of trees. That's only four fewer than on the forested island of Madeira.'

You'll start the day learning about one of the island's best-known products at an aloe vera farm. Find out how it's become an excellent all-rounder in the wellbeing world. We'll then head to Pajara to visit Nuestra Señora de la Regla church to admire its standout Aztec-looking façade. Marta adds, ‘Pajara was once voted the sixth most beautiful village in Spain. It oozes charm.' Drive next to the tiny west-coast fishing village of Ajuy, where you can explore its black-sand beach and sea caves in chalk cliffs. It's on to Betancuaria next, with a photo stop along the way to overlook the parched mountains and the ocean at the Las Peñitas viewpoint.

Step back in time in Betancuria with a chance to see the church of Santa María – the oldest in the Canaries – which was consecrated in 1424, or take a visit to the archaeological museum and view some interesting exhibitions. Then it's on to a family-run restaurant in Valle de Santa Ines for a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients. And to round off the day, we'll visit a goat farm and sample local cheeses as well as local jams and honey rum liqueur – a Fuerteventura favourite.

More Germans than Brits on the tour so everything needed to be in two languages. By the time we got to the English version, we were past whatever we were being told about. Since I have a little German, I was sure the Germens were being told at greater length than we were. But I loved the places we visited (except the Aloe Vera farm-I've been to so many on these tours) and especially Betancouria

The guide was brilliant. Trip itself was rushed as we didnt get to see the museum or view points for photos. The pick ups. We were picked up first and had over 1 hour of pick ups before the tour started. Ajuy was a waste of time. Nothing there. Churches were good. Goat farm was just a sell! Buy this buy that. Didn't see enough no interaction. Aloe vera farm very interesting lots of information but again sell sell sell. Lunch was very poor. Not worth the money at all. Very disappointing long day.

The town of Betencuria was very nice. We could have had longer there. Interesting to find out about the islands history. Could have done with more historical stops and less stops where you are obtuse into buying the produce

Took nearly one hour 20 mins to collect from all the hotels, and sane in reverse, so we were on the coach 3 hours longer than the actual tour
