Découvrir Villa Kerylos
Villa Kerylos is a piece of Greece situated on the French Riviera. This opulent villa was built next to the Baie des Fourmis in seaside Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France in the early 1900s. With a design inspired by the Greek noble houses found on the island of Delos in the 2nd century B.C., Villa Kerylos offers curious visitors a luxurious glimpse into ancient Greece.
Listed as a historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture since 1966, Villa Kerylo has an ornate interior featuring Greek-style furniture, mosaics and frescoes covering the walls, and a large open-air courtyard. In Greek, Kerylos means halcyon or kingfisher, which was considered to be a bird of good omen in Greek mythology.
Easily reached from Nice and Monaco, Villa Kerylos makes a splendid choice for a day trip. The building was formerly used as a leisure home by the family of Theodore Reinach, a French archaeologist that commissioned the construction of the building due to his fascination with Greek civilisation. The architect behind Villa Kerylos is Emmanuel Pontremoli.
